KLINIK - Awake [domestic version]
Songs: 11  Time:  55:15
Marc Verhaeghen has been creating music as Klinik since he helped to form the band with Dirk Ivens in 1984.  Ivens left Klinik several years ago for other projects (Dive, Blok 57, and Sonar).  Since then, Verhaeghen has worked with many others as Klinik and as various other projects (X10, Noise Unit, and D-Sign).  Awake is the newest Klinik album since 1994's To the Knife.  Traditionally, Klinik's music is minimalistic and entrancing.  Though some of these elements are still present, the band has advanced quite a bit in the last few years.  Awake  employs stark percussion and dark, moody synths underneath a layer of scratchy vocals.  This album manages to capture the vintage Klinik sound without sounding dated.  EDT Records has released an album by a band whose music seldom is offered for domestic distribution.  Hopefully, this will give those curious about Klinik a chance to pick up this great release without the import price tag that's usually attached.  Awake is a must for fans of early industrial music, but will still appeal those interested in the genre's new directions.
